I really enjoy empowering students to be independent scholars and well-informed citizens. I’ve found that incorporating big projects and research into these undergraduate experiences is a great way to engage students.
Teaching is one of my favorite activities because it provides the opportunity to generate excitement for geography in a new cohort of students. Engaging students in research is a really fun and hands-on way to get students immersed in our field, and producing impressive results. I’m a strong believer that independent and collaborative original research should be the hallmark of an effective undergraduate education. I am the faculty editor/adviser of our department’s MUEarthLab website, a forum for student and faculty research.
